The first time I saw a Chinese Crested Hairless I knew I had to have one. My best friend and dog partner at the time failed to see the beauty in the little hairless dog resembling a pony with all the attitude in the ring. He said there was absolutely no way we were getting one and him co-owning a bald dog. There was never a friendship closer then ours but with words like that I was even more determined to have one. Unfortunately not long after, my best friend was in a car accident and hospitalized for quite some time. When he was able to have visitors and I went to see him the first words out of his mouth were "ok how many do we own?" He knows me too well, we owned three. We will always be best friends but due to medical complications we could not stay dog partners, but the love I had for the Cresteds grew even more.

Chinese Cresteds are a very sweet breed loves people and does well with other animals. They adapt to almost any environment. They are nesters, especially the hairless. They love to cuddle or burrow under a blanket. When they get excited they tend to whirl in circles or jump up and down repeatedly looking like they are on a trampalene.

During warm months if they are going to be outside for any length of time the hairless should wear sun block to prevent sun burn. The hairless also get pimples and black heads easily if not kept clean.

There are three coat types in the Chinese Cresteds. The POWDERPUFF has a long wavey soft coat. Grooming consists of shaving the face and neck. The HAIRY HAIRLESS has body hair that is course and shaved leaving the soft furnishings  (crest, tail, and leggings). The HAIRLESS has little or no body hair with little or no furnishings. When you see a hairless in the show ring it is usually a hairy hairless because they have more furnishings and tend to be flashier.

This breed is not as popular as other breeds mainly because people tend to have a hard time getting past the fact these dogs are hairless but once they get one they never are without one again.
